Return to the Wisdom of the Body
Most of us breathe all day without paying much attention to how we breathe.
We also move through sensation, tension, emotion, impulse, and physical response without always recognizing what the body is communicating.
Somatic breathwork brings attention back to that relationship.
At Alkhemiyah, breathwork is approached through awareness rather than force.
Somatic means relating to experience through the body.
That may include noticing:
- Breath
- Temperature
- Tension
- Ease
- Movement
- Stillness
- Emotion
- Physical sensation
- Impulse
- Areas of resistance
Intensity is not proof that something worked.
Participants are never expected to produce a dramatic emotional release.
Crying is not the goal.
Intensity is not proof that something worked.
A powerful session may feel emotional.
It may also feel quiet.
Both experiences are valid.
A session is built from simple, intentional elements.
Grounding
Settling into the space and arriving in the body before anything is asked of the breath.
Breath Instruction
Plain explanation of the pacing you will be guided through and how to adjust or stop at any time.
Guided Breathing
Paced breathing offered as an invitation — slow, rhythmic, or gentle, depending on the session.
Somatic Noticing
Brief prompts to notice sensation, tension, ease, or impulse without needing to interpret or fix anything.
Movement When Appropriate
Small adjustments, gentle release, or stillness — whatever the body asks for in the moment.
Sound
Live bowls, drum, or voice may support pacing, mark transitions, or carry a longer rest.
Stillness
Intentional quiet so the body and nervous system can settle with what has been offered.
Integration
Slow re-entry with time to rest, drink water, and return at your own pace.
This practice fits people who
- Think faster than they can settle and want a practical way to slow down
- Prefer instruction that is specific rather than atmospheric
- Lead teams under sustained pressure and want a tool they can use again alone
- Want breath work without theatrics, pressure, or forced catharsis
- Are pairing breath with sound as part of a retreat or workplace program
- Are new to the practice and want to try the gentlest version first
What we need to know beforehand
Please tell Alkhemiyah about pregnancy, cardiovascular conditions, high or unmanaged blood pressure, asthma or other respiratory conditions, seizure history, glaucoma or recent eye or abdominal surgery, and any history of panic or dissociation. None of these automatically exclude you — they change what is offered.
Where a condition warrants it, Shaman Yawna Shakti will recommend medical clearance or run a modified session built entirely on slow, gentle breathing. Connected breathing is never the default and is never required.
